The first ever Basketball shoes developed by Nike, the Blazer Mid ‘77 Vintage Shoes are a staple for any retro-sneaker fanatics collection. An upper made of a crisp white leather features raised stitching which gives the body a greater depth through a panelling effect. The toebox and outer panel feature a light grey suede trim which offers a darker contrast to the white upper but alternatively complements the worn-in looking sail midsole. Finally, the shoe is decorated with a bold red swoosh on the side panel which connects to the heel counter, sitting under a speckled Nike spellout which further contributes to the vintage appeal.
Established in 1972, the Blazer was named after the Portland Trail Blazers which are the local team to the brand’s Oregon HQ. It became the face of Nike’s basketball campaign with its supportive, raised ankle and herringbone outsole which offered unrivalled traction. However, the updated ‘77 edition provided a slimmer silhouette and the suede mudguards provedto be a more athletically inspired design. Although an inherently vintage shoe, it has been continually influenced through collaborations with the likes of Off-White, The Ten and COMME des GARCONS. Easily styled be it with a pair of tapered trousers or shorts, these are a vintage must for the summer.
